Tonight, it’s estimated nearly 20 million Americans will watch the Academy Awards on television. Around the world, millions more will tune in. (You bet the AgePros team will be watching. And no. We’re not making any predications.)
Sure, we love the fashion, the excitement, the movie clips, the funny moments (especially when they’re not planned.) Still, there is one element of the show that always get us. You probably know it, too.
At some point in the broadcast, a veteran actor, director or some other legendary film professional will come out on stage. Maybe they’re presenting an award. Maybe they’re getting a Lifetime Achievement nod. Whatever it is, the camera will pan to the live audience — standing, clapping, cheering. A room full of the young, the beautiful, the of-the-moment relevant completely sincere in their respect for the older person before them. For all the experience, wisdom and achievement that person represents. For the life they have lived. It’s poignant and powerful.
It’s also a reminder of something AgePros experience all the time. Working with elderly, we have the good fortune to share in lives rich with experience, wonder and wisdom. To hear and share stories that, in ways big and small, are as gripping as anything on the silver screen. Lucky us.
Enjoy the Oscars!
